The Green Industry Center participated in the dialogue session “Ports of the Future: Operational Innovation and Green Solutions,” organized by the Misrata Free Zone on Saturday evening as part of the third season of its “Enrichment Evening” program. The event brought together a distinguished group of experts and specialists in maritime transport and environmental sustainability.

The session featured the participation of Dr. Mustafa Al-Aib, Director General of the Green Industry Center, alongside Eng. Ali Al-Naeimi, Head of the Green Port Team at the Misrata Free Zone, and Mr. Ahmed Breidan, Chairman of the Libyan Association for Navigation and Marine Sciences. Joining virtually were Mr. Youssef Emghi, representing Port of Antwerp-Bruges International, who also serves as the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Portus Advisory International.

Discussions focused on the importance of transitioning to green ports as a key pillar of sustainable development in the maritime transport sector. Participants highlighted the role of innovative operational solutions in reducing carbon emissions, improving resource and energy efficiency, and implementing international best environmental practices that support the global transition toward a green economy.

The dialogue also showcased international experiences and best practices in developing sustainable ports, emphasizing the importance of innovation and advanced technologies in enhancing port operations, improving competitiveness, and supporting trade and economic development.

The Green Industry Center’s participation reflects its commitment to promoting environmental sustainability, advancing the transition toward a green economy, and supporting national initiatives aimed at integrating environmental standards across productive and service sectors, thereby contributing to the achievement of Libya’s sustainable development objectives.

It is worth noting that the Misrata Free Zone has placed increasing emphasis on adopting sustainable environmental practices through the establishment of a dedicated Green Port Team. This initiative supports its commitment to clean energy adoption and aligns its development plans with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, particularly its climate action and clean energy objectives.
