Green Industry Center
About the Center
In light of global environmental challenges and the need to adopt sustainable industrial practices, establishing a Green Industry Center in Libya represents an important step toward promoting sustainable development, supporting the green and circular economy, and advancing cleaner production.
The Center seeks to provide an enabling environment for research and innovation in sustainable energy and resource management, and to improve industrial-production efficiency in line with green-industry and circular-economy principles. It also works to strengthen public-private cooperation and direct investment toward clean and sustainable technology projects by leveraging scientific research and technical development in clean energy, energy efficiency, and recycling technologies.
The Center’s mandate includes supporting the development of sustainable environmental policies and programs, raising awareness of environmental sustainability in the industrial sector, focusing on training and capacity building in green industry, and preparing a new generation of specialized national professionals.
The Center was established pursuant to Council of Ministers Resolution No. (264) of 2014 under the name Renewable Energy Center, affiliated with the University of Misurata. Its oversight was later transferred to the Ministry of Industry and Minerals pursuant to Council of Ministers Resolution No. (385) of 2024, and it was reorganized to serve the industry and minerals sector pursuant to Council of Ministers Resolution No. (469) of 2025, and renamed Green Industry Center.
