As part of the Ministry of Industry and Minerals’ vision to modernize Libya’s industrial sector and promote sustainable industrial development, the Green Industry Center participated in a series of meetings chaired by H.E. Mr. Mohammed Abdulqader, Minister of Industry and Minerals, with the participation of national institutions and international partners. The meetings focused on identifying strategic priorities and developing implementation frameworks to accelerate the transition toward a more sustainable and competitive industrial sector.

The Center first participated in the Ministry’s First Periodic Meeting, which marked the launch of the Ministry’s 100-Day Action Plan in line with the directives of the Prime Minister. During the meeting, the Center presented its role in supporting the Ministry’s priorities in sustainable industry, cleaner production, and the green economy, while contributing to institutional development, digital transformation, governance enhancement, and greater integration among the Ministry’s affiliated entities.

During the meeting, Dr. Mustafa Al-Aib, Director General of the Green Industry Center, emphasized the importance of launching the National Cleaner Production Program and integrating green economy principles into the Ministry’s development plans. He highlighted the role of these initiatives in improving industrial performance, optimizing the use of resources and energy, and strengthening the competitiveness of Libya’s industrial sector. The meeting also addressed preparations for Libya’s hosting of the Arab Ministers of Industry Meeting, during which the Center expressed its readiness to showcase Libya’s experience in green industry and contribute to strengthening Arab cooperation in this field.

The Center also participated in an expanded meeting held at the Economic and Social Development Council, dedicated to discussing the National Strategy for the Reform of the Industry and Minerals Sector and the transition toward Cleaner Production. The meeting brought together heads of authorities, institutions, and centers affiliated with the Ministry. Participants reviewed the strategy’s key pillars, including industrial sector restructuring, the promotion of industrial entrepreneurship, support for local manufacturing, and the development of practical, science-based solutions to the challenges facing the sector in line with international standards. During the meeting, the Minister officially received both the National Strategy for Mineral Resources Management and the National Strategy for Industrial Sector Reform and Cleaner Production, which will serve as the Ministry’s roadmap for future industrial development.

In support of international cooperation, the Green Industry Center, represented by its Director General, also participated in a meeting between the Minister and a high-level delegation from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in the fields of mining and green industry. During the meeting, the Center presented its mandate and its role in promoting the green circular economy, sustainable industrial development, efficient resource and energy management, and initiatives related to recycling and cleaner production.

The Center also discussed opportunities for collaboration with the OECD in the areas of capacity building, the development of legislation and policies supporting green industry, and the transfer of international expertise to strengthen Libya’s regulatory framework. The OECD delegation expressed its readiness to provide technical assistance and exchange expertise, highlighting its successful support for Egypt’s green industry initiatives as a valuable model that could help advance Libya’s sustainable industrial development efforts.

These successive engagements demonstrate the Green Industry Center’s position as the Ministry’s technical arm in the fields of sustainable industry and cleaner production. They also reflect the Center’s commitment to supporting the implementation of national strategies, strengthening partnerships with national institutions and international organizations, promoting the principles of the green economy, and enhancing the competitiveness of Libya’s industrial sector in line with international best practices.
