As part of its commitment to supporting Libya’s transition toward a green economy and advancing renewable energy initiatives, the Green Industry Center participated in an expanded consultative meeting held on Thursday, 9 April 2026, at the Al-Taj Hotel in Misrata. The meeting was organized at the invitation of Al-Welda Environmental Consulting Company to discuss the Environmental, Social, and Health Impact Assessment (ESHIA) for the 500 MW Misrata Photovoltaic Solar Power Plant Project.

The project is considered one of Libya’s strategic energy initiatives and is being implemented through cooperation between the Renewable Energy Authority of Libya, the General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL), and TotalEnergies. It reflects the country’s commitment to expanding the use of clean energy sources, strengthening energy security, and advancing its sustainable development objectives.

The Green Industry Center was represented by a delegation headed by its Director General, Dr. Mustafa Al-Aib, accompanied by department directors and a representative of the Sustainable Solutions Committee. Their participation underscores the Center’s commitment to monitoring projects of strategic environmental significance and supporting the application of internationally recognized environmental, social, and health standards.

The meeting also brought together officials, technical experts, and representatives of the project’s implementing entities, the Misrata Municipal Council, the agricultural sector, and organizations operating in the fields of energy and investment. Participants reviewed the project’s technical and environmental aspects and discussed its anticipated impacts.

During the meeting, the consulting company responsible for preparing the assessment presented the study’s methodology and outlined its key components. The presentation highlighted the measures proposed to minimize potential environmental impacts while maximizing the project’s economic and social benefits in accordance with national and international standards.

Participants emphasized the critical role of environmental impact assessments in supporting informed decision-making and ensuring the sustainability of major development projects. The Green Industry Center also stressed the importance of continued coordination and cooperation among all relevant stakeholders to ensure that renewable energy projects are implemented in line with international environmental best practices, contributing to Libya’s transition toward a green economy, reducing carbon emissions, and increasing reliance on clean energy sources.
