Green Industry Center Participates in Discussions on the National Cleaner Production Strategy and Industrial Sector Reform

The Green Industry Center participated in an expanded meeting chaired by H.E. Mr. Mohammed Abdulqader, Minister of Industry and Minerals, on 29 April 2026 at the headquarters of the Economic and Social Development Council in Tripoli. The meeting was attended by Mr. Mahmoud Al-Fatissi, Director General of the Council, along with chairpersons, directors general, and representatives of the authorities, institutions, and centers affiliated with the Ministry.

The meeting was dedicated to discussing mechanisms for advancing Libya’s industrial sector and establishing the executive framework required to modernize it in accordance with the latest international standards. Discussions focused on promoting a sustainable industrial sector built upon the principles of Cleaner Production and the efficient use of resources.

During the meeting, Mr. Abdulhamid Al-Sharif, Head of the Specialized Team, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the National Strategy for Reforming the Industry and Minerals Sector and the Transition toward Cleaner Production. The strategy aims to foster industrial entrepreneurship, restructure the Ministry’s affiliated institutions, strengthen national industries, improve institutional performance, and develop practical, science-based solutions to address the challenges facing the industrial sector.

Participants also reviewed the strategy’s key pillars, which emphasize embedding environmental sustainability into industrial development, improving the efficiency of industrial operations, and enhancing the competitiveness of Libya’s manufacturing sector in line with global trends toward the green economy and sustainable production.

At the conclusion of the meeting, H.E. the Minister of Industry and Minerals received from the Director General of the Economic and Social Development Council the final versions of the National Strategy for Mineral Resources Management and the National Strategy for the Reform and Development of the Industrial Sector and Cleaner Production. These strategies represent a comprehensive roadmap for modernizing Libya’s industrial sector, maximizing the sustainable use of natural resources, and supporting long-term economic development.

The participation of the Green Industry Center reflects its ongoing commitment to supporting national initiatives that promote the principles of Cleaner Production, accelerate the transition toward green industry, and contribute to implementing national strategies that strengthen environmental sustainability, enhance the competitiveness of Libya’s industrial sector, and advance the country’s green economy and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
