At the invitation of Dr. Mustafa Al-Arqat, Director General of the Institute of Planning and Chairman of the National Green Economy Committee, the Green Industry Center participated on Sunday and Monday, September 13 and 14, 2026, in the workshop held in Tunisia under the title “A National Roadmap for the Green Economy in Libya.”

The workshop was organized in cooperation between the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), the University of Rostock in Germany, and the Institute of Planning, with the participation of a number of national institutions and private-sector representatives. It aimed to explore pathways for advancing the green economy in Libya and strengthening integration among relevant stakeholders.

The workshop addressed several areas related to the green economy and circular economy, including a presentation of the preliminary findings of the National Circular Economy Study in Libya, as well as a review of selected outputs from the Green Industrial Transformation Database, overseen by the Green Industry Center, which provides data related to industrial facilities and their progress toward green transformation.

Participants also discussed the key legal, regulatory, financial, and technical challenges facing the transition toward a green economy, along with a number of regional experiences in developing and implementing green economy strategies and lessons that could be drawn from relevant practices.

The discussions also covered green industries, natural resources and mining, renewable energy, and sustainable transport, supporting the development of an integrated vision for the transition toward a more efficient and sustainable economy and enhancing the utilization of Libya’s national resources and potential.

The participation of the Green Industry Center in the workshop reaffirms its role in supporting the green industrial transformation pathway, strengthening cooperation and coordination among relevant national institutions, promoting the Green Industrial Transformation Initiative, and contributing to national efforts to build a green and sustainable economy in Libya.
